Nollywood Director Nosa Rex Issues Apology to Ghanaians Over Piracy Remarks

Nollywood filmmaker Nosa Rex has publicly apologized to Ghanaians following a recent outburst regarding the unauthorized broadcasting of his movie by a Ghanaian television station.

The controversy began when Nosa Rex’s film, Prince of Peace, was reportedly aired without his consent by a Ghanaian TV channel. In a video posted on his social media platforms on August 18, 2025, the director expressed his frustration and criticized Ghanaians, referring to them as “stupid” and warning that piracy could undermine the growth of the country’s entertainment industry. His comments quickly went viral and became a topic of widespread discussion across various entertainment circles.

Following the backlash, Nosa Rex took to social media on August 13, 2025, to clarify his statements and apologize for any misunderstanding. He emphasized that his criticism was directed specifically at television stations involved in piracy and not at the Ghanaian people as a whole.

“I see that many people are misinterpreting the video. The insult in that clip was directed at the TV stations, not the people of Ghana. Why would I insult an entire nation? That doesn’t make sense,” Nosa Rex explained. “I am looking forward to coming to Ghana and engaging with my fans directly. You know what that means.”

The director expressed that his frustration stemmed from the ongoing problem of piracy, which he believes undermines the value of creative work and disrespects the effort and skill of artists.

“I am fighting for the recognition of creativity and talent. When someone’s work is taken and exploited without permission, it shows a lack of respect for the craft,” he said. “This issue may even affect creative professionals in Ghana if it is not addressed. Speaking out is critical for the protection of artistic work.”

Nosa Rex reassured his fans that his comments were never intended as a personal attack. “I mean no disrespect—it is not in my nature to disrespect anyone. To my fans, both in Ghana and beyond, I want to say I love and respect you. My criticism was aimed at those who exploit creative works unlawfully, not at you,” he stated.

He concluded by urging the public and stakeholders in Ghana’s entertainment industry to stand against piracy: “Please speak out and fight for this cause. Stopping piracy is essential not just for us, but for all creatives. My love and respect are with the people of Ghana. No disrespect was intended.”

The clarification and apology were shared widely across social media platforms, including EASTERN FM 105.1 MHZ, providing fans with reassurance that Nosa Rex values and respects the Ghanaian audience while remaining firm in his advocacy for creative rights.
